Android grabs 68.1 percent of the global Smartphone OS market share in Q2

Once again Google’s open Android platform broke new ground for the market share lead, according to the latest press release from Canalys. This time Android surged by 20.5% from last year’s Q2 report to be at a whopping 68.1% of the global smartphone OS market share, due to the shipment of 107.8 million devices resulting in a 110.4% increase over last year (only 51.2 million shipments). Canalys also reported that one of the major factors for this huge increase was from Samsung, which had shipped a total of 45 million devices that also included the high-end Galaxy S III and the low-end Galaxy Y/Galaxy Mini devices.

Samsung’s sponsorship of the 2012 London Olympics and its rumored-upcoming phone the Galaxy Note 2 are sure going to help deliver a strong performance in Q3 said Canalys Principal Analyst, Pete Cunningham. You can read the full Canalys press release at the source link below.
