Well it’s finally here. After all the slogging and staring at lines of PHP code for hours on end – we’ve done it. Our great new look site is live. As you can probably see, the new site is similar to old one, yet a lot different at the same time.
Some of you may be wondering why I would carry out such a major update to the site so quickly, since we have only be live for a few months. Well, RefuGeeks started as a personal blog of mine a couple of years back caled “Jingi Blog” – just for fun. It grew and grew, so I started a self hosted blog (RefuGeeks) back in May. I didn’t really know much about WordPress or PHP when I first start RefuGeeks, so I buried my head in lots of online material to really swat up on it. I already knew HTML pretty well so moving over to PHP wasn’t a huge step luckily. But because I didn’t know WordPress or PHP that well, I started of with a theme from the popular WordPress theme site WooThemes (I’d highly recommend these guys if you’re starting a new site and need a theme) – they are great but the theme I was using wasn’t really unique enough for me and it was more of a blog theme, were I see RefuGeeks as more of an e-zine (online magazine) rather than just a blog.
Since going live, RefuGeeks has snowballed – we’re getting around 30,000 hits per month and growing every day. We’re also ranked as PR5 on Google’s page ranking system. Which for a site only 3 months old is astonishing! All of this is thanks to the brilliant readers that we have on RefuGeeks – so because of your support, I wanted to give you the best online experience possible whilst on RefuGeeks – hopefully I’ve achieved that.
Anyway, I wanted to let you guys in on why I decided to carry out this pretty large update on RefuGeeks. I’m really keen to get your feedback to please feel free to leave your comments below whether they be good, bad or indifferent. Now starts the work of porting all the code over to our sister site, DroidHQ, YIPEE!
