Liferea – RSS Reader For Linux

If you’re anything like me then keeping up with the latest technology news (or any news for that matter) is very important part of your life. Then a good RSS feed reader is very important, when I’m on my mobile devices Google Reader does the job just fine. But when on my laptop I don’t really want to be using the Google Reader web interface, as let’s face it, it’s pretty awful.

So I use Liferea. It’s a very simple and light application that works extremely well in Ubuntu. Liferea comes with a handful of example feeds to get you started, but you can easily add a feed by clicking on the “Add Subscription” button then pasting the URL of a RSS feed. That’s it, job done!

Here is the URL for the RefuGeeks RSS feed to get you started - http://feeds.feedburner.com/refugeeksfeed. Once you’ve loaded a feed you can easily open the original article be selecting Item >Launch In Browser from the global menu.

If you want to install Liferea in Ubuntu all you have to do is run the following three commands in a terminal window:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:liferea/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install liferea
