Manufacturers sidestep Windows 8

Since the release of Windows 8 back in October 2012, the new flagship OS from Microsoft has been met with a certain degree of scepticism to say the least. After consumers and manufacturers including HP, Dell and Fujitsu have openly said that demand for Windows 8 has been weak at best.

So what’s happening with Windows 8?

This is what Fujitsu’s CEO, Masami Yamamoto has to say about Windows 8 sales so far:

If Fujitsu has not reached its goal of selling PC’s in 2012, it’s simply because the demand for Windows 8 on the part of consumers is small, almost insignificant.

Dell have said nothing more than “Windows 8 adoption has been relatively high”. But we are yet to see what “relatively high” actually means. With such a ‘game changer’ like Windows 8 now on the shelves surely we would have seen an explosion of people buying the latest Microsoft offering? Unfortunately not.

Although Microsoft chants that the slope continues to grow, we recall after the introduction of Vista that sales were accentuated by 2.2% compared to 8, if we remember a little, we remember that Vista was a real flop…this says a lot about the beginnings of Windows 8.
