If you’re anything like me then you will trawl the vast amount of blogs and news sites on the Internet looking for interesting things to read about. I do this so much that my girlfriend has actually made her own verb for this action. She calls it ‘Ubuntuing’, phrases like “Are you Ubuntuing again?” and “Turn that bloody laptop off and stop Ubuntuing!” are commonplace in my household.

Anyway, aside from that, a new Unity Lens has been released that will enable anyone to find news on pretty much any subject they like…this has really helped with my ‘Ubuntuing’. The Unity News Lens can easily be installed by running the terminal commands at the bottom of this article, all you need to do then is log off and on again and hey presto, your new Unity News Lens is active.

The Unity News Lens has a great trick up it’s sleeve – it can search in any languages. All you need to do is prefix your search with ‘!countrycode’, for example !de for Germany. A full list of language codes can be found on Wikipedia. Remember to prefix the country code with an exclamation mark or it won’t work.

Here are the commands you need to run in order to install the Unity New Lens…happy ‘Ubuntuing’!

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:scopes-packagers/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install unity-lens-news
