Back To Normal

A couple of weeks ago we talked about how RefuGeeks is going onwards and upwards, moving from a free blog hosted on Blogger, to what it is now having outgrown a number of hosts.

bluehost-logoWe took the decision to migrate RefuGeeks from our old host, to a new, more powerful hosting platform on the popular Bluehost server. But unfortunately we still had problems with Bluehost and have had to move again. This isn’t the fault of Bluehost, it’s our fault. We completely under-estimated the amount of traffic we get here on RefuGeeks. Bluehost is perfect for smaller sites, but with our approximate 150,000 page views (and growing) a month, and over 750,000 hits, we’re just too big for “normal” hosting.

Onward & upward…again

5quid logoSo what now? We’ve jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire with Bluehost. So, we’ve migrated again. We’re once again hosted back in the UK with 5quidHost on a dedicated server that has 10x the power of our previous server. This means that we have more resources available to us to keep the performance of RefuGeeks up as we grow and grow (thanks to you guys!).

We’re still ironing out some of the kinks, but we’re already seeing a noticeable improvement in performance on our new server. With all the problems, and a number of readers being awesome and expressing their worries that RefuGeeks was running like cr@p, we though we owed you guys an explanation. We’re human after all, and with only myself doing all of the development for RefuGeeks, mistakes are bound to happen from time to time (sorry!).

We really hope you guys are noticing the increased performance on RefuGeeks. If you are still having problems then please feel free to to contact us and let us know. We look forward to your continued support, thanks for being awesome!
