Elementary OS Luna Beta 2 Released
This article is over six months old. Which means the information below may be out of date. Please keep this in mind whilst reading this article.
Just a few hours ago the release of Elementary OS Luna beta 2 was announced on the official Elementary Journal. But what does that mean for us users, and is it finally ready?
It’s ready when it’s ready…
The guys over at Elementary HQ are notorious for not restricting themselves to any kind of release cycle. Opting instead for a “ready when it’s ready” approach. This means that they don’t have a mad panic 1 day before their release date and it gives them the time they need to add all the features they want to add prior to release.
Not only this, but it means that the Elementary team don’t need to keep letting their users down by delaying launch. As with the recent, well documented Fedora and Mageia delays.
So is it ready?
Well that’s a matter of opinion. Being Elementary, it is of course beautiful, quick, and simple to use. But if you were to ask the developers then they would of course say it isn’t ready as it’s a beta release. However, if you were to ask me, I would have no problems using Luna as my main OS as it stands now. I’ve been running it in a virtual machine with just 1GB of RAM and the performance is excellent.
However, that doesn’t mean that Luna isn’t without it’s problems. There is the odd crash here and there, but as I said, performance is excellent and it does look gorgeous. If you want a full run down of what’s new in Elementary OS Luna Beta 2, then head on over to the Elementary announcement for more information.
