Humans are simple beings, that’s why things like DNS were created. Computers have no problem remembering IP addresses like 195.238.172.125, but we find it easier to remember URL’s like RefuGeeks.com – what I’m trying to say is that we, as humans like simple language when it comes to remembering things.

The same thing goes for our social media profiles, on Twitter we have twitter.com/refugeeks1, on Facebook it’s facebook.com/refugeeks but on Google+ it’s plus.google.com/108794563089450599353 – which isn’t all that easy to remember I think you will agree. Today I found this really helpful website called GPlus.to; what it does is shorten you Google+ URL to something that is easy to remember. So now we have gplus.to/refugeeks – much easier!

All you need to do is navigate to your Google+ profile, copy the long string of numbers from the address bar and past them into GPlus.to along with your chosen username. Provided the username is available then you will than have a nice short and simple address for your Google+ profile, simple.

this is a great idea but it was not implemented well…once you make it you can’t change it, edit it, change accounts…you can’t do anything but make it so MAKE SURE you get it PERFECT the first time or you are screwed. I chose to just to a redirect on my site… so it is http://visuex.com/gplus

There is a link at the bottom of the page to update your URL.

That link is useless. You can only update the nickname and not the resulting G+ ID. I created a business account before G+ allowed those and made a gplus.to for it. G+ blocked that and created G+ Pages which also has G+ IDs but the one I made previously is completely useless as I can’t do something as simple as just change the ID it goes to.

        So this service sucks.

I agree it’s not the most elegant solution, but it is a means to an end until Google decide to add more ‘human’ URL’s to G+

If it is a business account, you could always setup a sub-domain that forwards to you G+ profile. So http://gplus.refugeeks.com could forward to our G+ page. I might set that up actually!

    No offense taken :)

Yeah I suppose it is pretty much the same thing, except I used sub-domains.
