HP Announce New ElitePad 900 Tablet
HP announced yesterday their second attempt at conquering the tablet market with the HP ElitePad 900. With there first attempt, the HP TouchPad was a failure to say the least running HP’s proprietary WebOS software.
This time around HP may have learnt from their mistakes with the TouchPad. The new ElitePad 900 will be running the new Windows 8 operating system and with a whole host of gadgets and accessories on the way for the HP ElitePad 900 it could well be a viable alternative to the iPad or Nexus 7 for business users.
The new HP ElitePad 900 is more than a stunning device—more than another beautiful face in a pageant of consumer tablets. It is first and foremost a powerful productivity tool made especially for customers in business and government.
I have to admit, the HP ElitePad 900 is a nice looking device. HP haven’t released the full specs yet but they have said that it will sport a 10.1-inch, 1280×800-pixel Gorilla Glass-coated display, will weigh around 1.5 pounds, and will be just 9.2mm thick. With regards to the grunt of the device, all we know is that the ElitePad 900 will have a “next generation Atom CPU” and have 2GB of on board memory with the option of expanding that by a further 64GB by way of an SSD (Solid State Drive).
Some of you may know that I work for HP and because of this I am privy to some internal announcements about the Elitepad 900 but as of yet the details are for internal use only. As soon the information goes public though, I will update you guys.
Here is what Meg Whitman (CEO of HP) has to say about the ElitePad 900 in a short YouTube video:
[youtube id="xzWbwpEzfEI" width="600" height="350"]I’ve had numerous run in’s with Windows 8 already and overall my experience has been far from positive. Will the touch screen interface and this new type of computing really bring Windows 8 into it’s own? Only time will tell.
The HP ElitePad 900 should be hitting the shelves in early 2013…I wonder if it will be able to run Ubuntu?
