HP Back In The Smartphone Market

The first attempts of the brand in terms of smart devices has not really been as successful as hoped. We remember the Touchpad and Palm Pre, resulting from the acquisition of Palm. After more than a year’s absence and the resale of WebOS (after passing opensource stage), HP intends to make a comeback in the smartphone market.

A couple of days ago, the director of PC and tablet business in Asia, Yam Yin Su, held a press conference with Indian journalists claiming that the company would now focus on all market segments, including smartphones. After failed attempts of its products under their own mobile OS, WebOS, as well as failed attempts with Windows mobile and also Android – we’re yet to see successful injection into the mobile market from HP.
This time no announcements regarding the system to be used for this comeback, but Yam Yin Su evokes a “different experience”. There is also no comment on the date on which this big comeback would take place, but last September CEO Meg Whitman already spoke in these terms:
We shall end by offering smartphones because in many countries it is the opportunity to access a first computer system, and we are a company that offers IT.
Already renowned for the reliability of its machines, we can only wish the best for HP comeback. But only time will tell if HP will finally break the mobile market. They had a great chance with WebOS and blew…let’s hope it’s a different story this time around.
