HP Pavilion 20-b101ea All-In-One Launched Running Ubuntu
Yesterday HP yet again dipped their toe into the pond of open source loveliness by launching this rather sexy looking all-in-one device, the HP Pavilion 20-b101ea in the UK (it’s a shame the name isn’t quite as sexy).
Historically all-in-one devices such as the HP Pavilion 20-b101ea tend to be quite expensive, but with this little gem costing a mere £349 you have to wonder why it’s so cheap. Looking at the specifications of the device does go some way to explaining the price, so let’s take a look:
[checklist]- AMD E1-1200 1.4GHz Dual-Core APU
- Integrated AMD Radeon HD 7310 Graphics
- 4GB DDR3 RAM (expandable to 8GB)
- 500GB 7200RPM hard drive
- HD WLED 20″ Wideescreen (1600×900)
- CD/DVD Writer
With 4GB of RAM, integrated graphics and a meagre 1.4GHz dual core CPU this device certainly isn’t going to win the “powerhouse of the year” award, but it is more than enough for most home and small business users alike.
The device is a great price and obviously gives you everything you need to get you going; but the low class CPU really is a cause for concern here. Especially now that Steam for Linux has been released!
Will it sell?
Well, would you buy one? Personally I wouldn’t but that’s because I don’t like all-in-one machines. Putting that aside though, I think the only real people that would buy this are probably going to be those who are aware of Ubuntu, and therefore slightly geeky at the very least. This worries me in that most geeks would usually opt for a more powerful machine than this. So in my humble opinion, I think if HP upped the specification a little bit then it would stand a chance, otherwise I don’t think there will be many adopters of the HP Pavilion 20-b101ea.
Hopefully I’ll be proven wrong as the more OEM’s that jump on board with Linux vendors the better. What do you guys think? Would you go out and buy one?
