Is There An Ubuntu Tablet On The Way?

On the Ubuntu homepage is a very interesting countdown timer. I wonder what this is actually counting down to? I suppose we will all find out tomorrow….

What could it be?

Well, there are some clues within the picture. The countdown is using the orange “orbs” from the Ubuntu Phone OS, and the text obviously points towards an announcement related to a tablet. Could this be the official release of Ubuntu for the Nexus 7? Or are the Ubuntu team planning on announcing a Tablet version of Ubuntu Phone OS?

At the moment we can but guess, but one things for sure….it’s very exciting! What do you guys think it could be?

Update

It has since come to light that not only Ubuntu have a count down on timer on their site, but HTC, the smart phones makers also have one on theirs. But the really interesting and exciting thing is that both of these times are exactly one minute apart. Check out this screenshot from my machine…

My own personal point of view is that this can’t possibly be a mere coincidence, surely not? It just doesn’t make any sense. What do you guys think? Is there an Ubuntu/HTC collaboration on the way?

    why they persist in wanting to follow the tenor of the sector? Decidedly they deviate increasingly from the opensource philosophy !!

      I don’t understand how this is deviating from the open source philosophy? Every piece of software that gets released is open source so can it possibly deviate from a FOSS philosophy?

    Good Idea, and initiative from Canonical. But this tablet does not
    increase the fragmentation around mobile OSs ? Because it’s there
    already a very big catalog of OpenSources mobileOS variants!
