Let’s Get Google Drive For Linux!
I’m pretty sure that many of the people reading this article will know what Google Drive is, but for those who don’t I’ll quickly explain. Google Drive is a cloud syncing application from Google that allows users to sync data autonomously across computers and to the cloud. It’s pretty much the same thing as other services like Dropbox and Ubuntu One.
The problem is that there isn’t a Linux client available for Google Drive; even though both ChromeOS and Android have clients and they are based on Linux. Google themselves even use a custom Ubuntu spin internally on their computers. So I really can’t understand how us Linux users don’t have a Google Drive client yet.
There are some great alternatives such as Insync (which is what I am currently using) but it doesn’t compare to an official Google Drive client for Linux. Plus, Insync intend to start charging once it comes out of beta.
After six months of waiting for a Google Drive client for Linux I have decided to take matters into my own hands and yesterday I launched Drive4Linux. Drive4Linux is a simple online petition that hopefully will get signed my as many Linux users as possible and in turn push Google to do the right thing and release an official Linux client. Once I feel I have a good amount of signatures I will press this upon Google myself using social network, email and even writing letters – basically, anyway I can get in touch with Google I will!
The likelihood is that this petition will have absolutely no effect whatsoever but how will we know unless we don’t try? It only takes a few seconds to sign the petition. All you need is a valid email and none of your details will be shared or made publicly available. So please support Drive4Linux and the Linux community by signing the petition using the link below.
Thank you!

P.S. Please feel free to share this information on any social networks, communities or blogs that you are a part of. After all, if we don’t share this information then Drive4Linux is pretty useless as a petition. :)
