Contents
Previously expected to be announced IFA in Berlin, LG have announced the LG G Pad 8.3, its flagship tablet. It features noble specifications, and at the forefront of the times. We suggest you to make a tour of this new gem of technology.
Technical specifications
On a compact appearance with rounded and flat edges, the LG G Pad 8.3 has more than correct dimensions: 216.8 x 126.5 x 8.3 mm, and a total weight of just 338 grams. It sports a beautiful LCD 8.3-inch, which is full HD 1080p+ (WUXGA) and has a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels.
Under the hood we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 SoC Quad-Core CPU clocked at 1.7 GHz, 2 GB RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. It also has front and back cameras at 1.3 and 5 mega-pixels respectively, but there is no flash. Note the presence of two speakers at the raear of the unit that allow you to enjoy stereo sound in a horizontal position.
The G-Pad 8.3 is not available with cellular connectivity (3G or 4G), but it does obviously support WiFi. For connectivity we find Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi b/n/g, but no 3G, 3G+, 4G or LTE. Also, this tablet does not have its own telephony functions.
Some may think that the lack of 3G is a problem, but as with a lot of LG’s offerings, prices are low, which means profits are also lower so they need to keep the specs down where possible. However, what the device lacks in specs, it does make up for in software.
The LG G Pad boasts a a host of software, such as QSLIDE, which manages multitasking, KnockOn which allows to turn on or off the tablet by tapping the screen, and we also find all the new features introduced with the LG G2 (excluding the button located at the rear which commands principal functions of the smartphone).
The last in the slew of LG software is Qpair, an application that synchronizes the tablet with an Android smartphone, which does not need to be an LG device. It offers the possibility to make calls, and respond to incoming messages on the smartphone from the tablet. Finally, the LG G Pad 8.3 runs Android 4.2.2 (not 4.3) and features a generous 4600 mAh battery….
Conclusion
After a failed first foray into the tablets market with the Optimus Pad, it appears that LG can now compete with the tenors of the sector with the LG G Pad 8.3. It accumulates a lot of positives, but only future testing will deliver the real possibilities of this tablet. In the meantime, we know that the G Pad will be offered in both black and white. However, neither the price nor the release date, are known yet.
