Microsoft Strike A Low Blow To Google With New Video
A video created for internal use at Microsoft seems to have made it’s way out on to the Internet. Coincidentally the “internal video” coincides with Google’s 2013 I/O Show. One could think that this “internal video” was always destined to hit the Internet…SURELY NOT I hear you cry. Microsoft would never resort to such an underhanded tactics…would they?
I’m sure many of you have seen the Chrome advert were the small circular logo goes on a mini-adventure to show viewers all the places you can enjoy Google’s browser. Well, Microsoft have copied that advert almost exactly, but instead of showing off what Google can do you for you, it instead characterises Google as being a corporate fiend who is only out to invade your privacy and make money from you. Here’s a look at the two videos:
Is this right?
Well, the fact of the matter is, Google does spy on you, and it does make money through advertising. However, so does Microsoft, Yahoo, AOL, and many other large online companies. Hell, even RefuGeeks spies on you a little bit. Our server installs a cookie on your machine that allows us to see what pages you have visited within RefuGeeks – this is extremely common and the vast majority of web sites do it (read our privacy policy for more information if you’re worried).
The fact of the matter is, if you don’t want to get spied on, don’t use the internet. It is very difficult to surf the net without handing over any kind of information from your machine.
So Microsoft are being terrible hypocrites here, ever seen adverts in Hotmail/Outlook? I know I have and they’re exactly the same thing. What’s more, Google offer the vast majority of their services for free, whereas similar services on Microsoft tend to cost money. So is is the real “Scroogle” here?
