Tablets in all forms and variants

HP has finally decided the strategic choice to use Android as the OS of choice on its tablets… This does not announce a new era, but it is a harbinger of the new policy of the manufacturer. The Slate 7 is positioned as a promising entry level tablet.

In response to Apple‘s iPad Mini, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Tab 8… Not really a revolution, but it is a device with somewhat surprising capabilities. Acer and Lenovo chose to play it safe, offering low-end models, but with  some interesting technical features, it remains to be tested to confirm their performances.

We also appreciated the work done by ZTE to provide us with the V98. This is a perfect harmony between knowledge and innovation. Finally, in the range of tablets the big surprise came from Sony, with its Xperia Z Tablet, which won the trophy of the best tablet of MWC for RefuGeeks. Congratulations to Sony, and we expect to see the next stage of this work !

The tablet will be available in the spring at $650 for the 16GB version and $715 for the 32GB version. Here’s a little video to get a glimpse of this wonder:

You said smartphone?

That’s one of the spokes which was probably the best provided during the conference. Grand ZTE Memo, Asus Padfone Infinity, Samsung Galaxy Express, Samsung Galaxy X Cover 2, P2 Huawei Ascend, LG Optimus 2 L7 Dual Yotaphone… SpareOne, Keon, Stylistic S01, LG Optimus F5 Orange Lumo… Nec Medias N-05E W…  And HTC One !

I’m sure, these names will remain for a long time engraved in your memory, because innovations that some of these devices were still unthinkable a few weeks ago. We went from Dual Core CPU, to Quad Core’s , without forgetting to mention the multiplication by 2 of the RAM for some, and of course the devices that have multiple screens – even one that incorporates an e-ink screen like the kindle range. This time, tree awards will be discerned, because three categories are in competition: The best mobile innovation, the most powerful smartphone ever made, and the most accessible range.

The trophy for the best mobile innovation is awarded to Fujitsu with its Stylistic S01! Certainly it is not the most powerful of the band, but it affects a marginalized population of the new technologies, Seniors. Hats off to Fujitsu for this ingenious idea, and we expect to see the new version soon.

Now, for its aesthetics, its delicacy, its power, ease of use, the brats of innovations it embarks , the HTC One wins the trophy for the most powerful smartphone ever made. Compared to both the market leaders such as the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy III, this Smartphone has the mouth, and has great capabilities.

It is not easy to enter into possession of communications equipment at the forefront of innovation, while Nokia, thought to the populations of South Countries by widening its range with moving between $20 and $120. The trophy for the most available range is awarded to Nokia for its 301 and 105.

We offer a hands-on of the HTC One via this video:

Innovation

7 competitors are racing for the trophy of the best MWC 2013 innovation for RefuGeeks. The Acer DA220HQL, which sees the future of PC in Android. Wysips, which will soon revolutionize the capacity of our batteries, which can henceforth be charge with sunlight and without plate or photovoltaic cells.

Li-fi, the internet by the light, which promises data transfer rate up to 100Mbits/s, without radio waves and simply with light. StriimLight the connected bulb, which can be used to play all audio streams of your Smartphone via Bluetooth or WiFi. The Dell Ophelia, the proprietary version of the Raspberry Pi, byDell.  The Paper based Nano-SIM , Wallet and Knox by Samsung, to bring more security to Android and improve contactless payment solutions.

The trophy for the best MWC 2013 innovation is awarded to…… Wysips! Surprising choice, yes, but the smartphone has become more important in our lives than our cars … Clothes … Why? Just because these smart objects contain all our lives: our friends, our personal data, our projects … Our music.

Wysips provides a solution that once deployed, will increase the autonomy of our digital companions, and this may well increase our productivity.

Can Firefox OS exits beside leaders?

Before speculating on the future of Firefox OS, let us question why Firefox OS … According  Tristan Nitot, Mozilla evangelist:

All our operator partners agree: to meet the demand of the next two billion users, who now have a phone but want a smartphone, will be a challenge.

Mozilla is a non-profit organization whose goal is to promote the website and make it accessible to all: it can not remain confined to the desktop, but must go to the mobile, it must take these new users to the web and HTML5 rather than closed ecosystems.

It is no secret that Android and iOS are the main mobile OS used by manufacturers, followed directly by WP (Windows Phone). However, more and more users want the difference because 64% of smartphones sold worldwide are equipped with the Google OS. And since its first release, Android has not really suffered notable changes, cosmetic yes… But nothing extraordinary. Some of these Smartphones hold overlays software created by manufacturers, others do not.

Firefox OS

For a while too, we hear a lot about the death of Android, due to its over-representation. So maybe Firefox OS has a chance to break into this market. Only the future will tell. One thing is certain, the market will be turned upside after the arrival of FirefoxOS or it will be a dismal failure for Mozilla. And that is without counting Tizen, the open source mobile OS developed by Intel and Samsung.

All will be played on the ability of Mozilla to mobilize sufficient innovations to offer a real change for consumers.

Conclusion

Unfortunately we’ve reached the end of this wonderful adventure, we hope you enjoyed and have had a great time to scrutinize the MWC alleys through RefuGeeks. Why not tell us what you think about the different products and innovations presented during the MWC 2013 …
