MSN Messenger Is Finally Put To Rest

The chat network which has allowed much of the youth of today to chat with friends has today been put to rest. MSN was launched on 22 July 1999 and was one of very few chat systems at the; ICQ and IRC to name a couple of others. The recipe of this success? Ease of use, diversification of the features and bold design.

MSN MessengerMSN has been an unfortunate victim of social networks such as Facebook, Google+ and Twitter, Microsoft’s chat was in a very slippery slope for many of years; and between 2007 and 2009, Messenger hit the bottom, losing more than 200 million users.

So since April 8, Microsoft has decided to transfer users’ contacts on Skype, bought in 2011 for 8.5 billion euros. Its associated messaging service, Hotmail, will also be closed. MSN Messenger will be replaced by Skype, and Hotmail by Outlook.

After 14 years of service, MSN has a special place in many of our hearts, and it’s a real page of history that turns. To transfer a Windows Live Messenger account on Skype, simply install Skype and login with your MSN details. Your full list of your regular contacts will then be accessible..

What was your experience with MSN Messenger? Will you repeat it with Skype? Why not give us your feedback on this news that shook the web throughout the week …

I like both messenger and Skype. The only thing that I will miss from Messenger is the ability to share photos by dragging and dropping, which allows you view the photo without actually having to download the photo on to your computer and then viewing it. IMO, it was more convenient with that feature.
