The New Look RefuGeeks Is Live

After our recent announcement that we would be changing the look of RefuGeeks, today the new look has gone live. I’m sure you can imagine that there is a hell of a lot of work involved in re-designing a website so you will probably still see some remnants of the old colours lying around the site for the next few days. Don’t worry though, we will find and replace them all.

What do you guys think of the new look? We really want to hear what you think so please feel free to leave some feedback in the comments section below or head over to our forums to say hi and tell us what you think.

Why did we change?

Well, the site used to use the official Ubuntu colours and also the Ubuntu font and whilst we do write a lot about open source and in particular Ubuntu, we also write about a lot of other technologies like Windows, Android and other Linux distributions. We didn’t want to hang off the back of Ubuntu’s “look” so we took the decision to create a look all of our own. We really hope you like the new and improved look and we promise, there will no more major changes any time soon!

This is just another step in making RefuGeeks as awesome as it possibly can be. Do you think we’re on the right path?

Well you can’t please everyone I suppose. It does get away from the Ubuntu look and since we’re not strictly an Ubuntu site, it’s only fair.

Now it looks like more of Windows 8 color theme… :P

Well as I soon as I saw this, I think of both Windows and Chrome OS.
I like Chrome. This look is nice, but I’m sure many Ubuntu lovers will hate it.

I appreciate that the Ubuntu gang won’t really like the new look at much as the old look and it would be very difficult to produce a colour scheme that doesn’t have some kind of resemblance to any other OS/Technology, so I opted for my favourite colour – blue.

The fact of the matter is that we’re not an Ubuntu site, so using the official Ubuntu colours and Ubuntu font could be quite misleading. Granted the site is blue, but the resemblance to other OS/Technologies ends there.

We’re trying to make a look of our own and I personally think we have achieved that with the new colour scheme. :)
