SanDisk Connect – WiFi In A USB Flash

If you use a tablet or a smartphone, and you want to copy the contents stored on your computer without going through decentralized services like Dropbox or SkyDrive, the operation will be quite complicated because these mobile devices do not have a USB port. SanDisk takes the bull by the horns and proposes the SanDisk Connect range, comprising of two products, the Wireless Media Drive, and Wireless Flash Drive.

The Wireless Flash Drive is a USB stick with an embedded WiFi chip. The device operates based in two modes, both of which exploite the WiFi chip built into the frame.

The first mode allows the transfer of files by connecting the USB drive to your computer, and in this case the power source is the USB port on the computer. The second mode is used to transfer files without connecting to PC or Internet. In this mode, the Wireless Flash Drive uses the integrated Lithium-ion battery that can provide up to 4 hours of streaming (audio, video and pictures). WiFi is activated by a button on the top of the frame, and you can simply recharge the battery by connecting the key to a computer, or on any USB charger.

This application allows you to view the contents of your drive directly from your tablet or smartphone or any other mobile device with WiFi. The availability is set for September, with prices of around $50 for the 16GB version and $60 for the 32GB one. Finally, you can use it with 8 devices simultaneously, and it may stream to 3.

Wireless Media Drive

With the same technical specifications as the Wireless Flash Drive , the Wireless Media Drive is a kind of aluminium box, measuring 6.5 cm wide, and with 32 or 64 GB of memory, an SD slot and a battery twice as large (so 8 hours). In addition, the Wireless Media Drive can stream content to 5 devices simultaneously. Availability is announced for September too, for prices ranging between $80 (32GB) and $100 (64GB).
