The Geeksphone Peak+ Available For Pre-Order
The first update of FirefoxOS gave wings to the manufacturers of products that are designed to accommodate it. Indeed, the Spanish Geeksphone, leading manufacturer of devices running Mozilla’s OS has announced the Peak+, a more advanced version of the Peak, available for pre-order with expected delivery in mid-September.
Technical specifications
The Peak+ is aimed at the general public, more than to developers, and is the third smartphone of the Spanish manufacturer founded specifically for Firefox OS. The Peak+ provides in a qHD+ 4.3 inches screen with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz coupled to an Adreno 203 GPU . All powered by 1 GB of RAM. Storage is provided by 4 GB of internal memory expandable via a microSD slot. It also has two cameras. A front 2 megapixels and a rear 8 megapixels.
Connectivity is basic. It sports GPS, FM radio, 3G, Wi-Fi n/b/g and Bluetooth 2.1 chips. A Lithium-ion battery of 1800 mAh ensure a day or more, depending on the use made of the smartphone. As mentioned above, it will run on FirefoxOS 1.1. And the advertised price is rather aggressive €149.
Whilst it’s no powerhouse, it’s certainly a good entry level smartphone that will fill the void left in the wake of powerhouses like the Galaxy S4, iPhone, and even the Ubuntu Edge.
The challenge looks great for Mozilla’s OS, when you look competitors. However, if it aims to provide the necessary innovations, and addresses some of the expectations of the public, it could find a way through this jungle. And you? Would you be willing to give them a chance?
