WordPress Twenty Thirteen Theme – A Whole New Look

WordPress 3.6 beta 1 has been released for the general public to test, and with the stable release due in the very near future it’s time for WordPress to showcase the new default Twenty Thirteen theme.
It’s different this time…
Previous versions of the default WordPress themes, such as Twenty Eleven and Twenty Twelve have been pretty bare bones, with not many features, and overall a very basic look. But the new Twenty Thirteen theme that will be used in WordPress 3.6 is a whole different ball game.
It’s colourful, has a load of custom post types, and some great artwork to boot. It also works a lot more like a Tumblog, rather than the typical header image with a tonne of articles below that we’ve come to expect from WordPress. This says to me that WordPress are trying to get back to their roots of blogging, rather than the massive website CMS that it has become.
When the WordPress team announced the initial release of Twenty Thirteen back in February, they explained a little bit more about some of the features they’ve added to the new Twenty Thirteen theme.
“What you’ll notice first is the colors. Way more use of color than a bundled WordPress theme has had before. Each post format has its own color, so each is distinct, yet they are all complimentary. The bold colors encourage authors to try out all the different formats. This color extends the full width of the window, which breaks your blog up into a lush, segmented timeline. This effect is even more pronounced on mobile browsers, where the screen can be dominated by one or two posts at a time, in all of their chromatic fullness.”
With the new features such as great colours, a Tublog style, and great accent artwork like the post arrows shown above; the Twenty Thirteen theme is a great contender for those users who just want to install WordPress and start blogging straight away. It’s great to see that WordPress are getting back to their roots with this one.
WordPress 3,6 is due for release very soon. It will see a lot of new features, not just the Twenty Thirteen theme. You can download and test beta 1 now. Are you a WordPress user that’s looking forward to the 3.6 release? Tell us why in the comments section below.
